The influence of microorganisms in the aging of wood
Exposure to inclement weather modifies the surface of the wood, and the result is often aesthetically unappealing.
The wood degradation process first needs to be defined more clearly before solutions can be found to improve the appearance of wood coverings.
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the influence of bacterial and fungal communities during the wood ageing process.
The project also theorises that the mechanisms for interaction between fungus and bacteria, as well as between microorganisms and abiotic factors, have an effect on the rate at which wood ages.
