Objectives of ESB’s engineering degree

Aware that these materials are the answer to environmental and societal challenges, ESB engineers are trained to make the most of wood and biosourced materials. They are committed to designing and building a sustainable future.

As leaders of the teams they supervise, ESB engineers draw on their scientific and technical knowledge and their managerial skills to bring their projects to a successful conclusion.

They are capable of introducing innovation into the processes for which they are responsible, in a wide range of sectors (construction, transport, capital goods, etc.).

Particularly sensitive to market expectations, they are capable of imagining uses and services to make life easier for users.

Their sense of practicality and teamwork is developed on the basis of 1:1 projects and experiments… all unique features of the ESB engineering programme.

In 2023, the graduation rate for the Engineering Diploma is 80%.

The ESB engineering degree is recognised by the French government

ESB is accredited by the Commission des titres de l’ingénieur (CTI) to award the engineering degree. This national body regularly assesses the quality of the training through audits.

The diploma has been awarded the EUR-ACE label, which validates that the training complies with European standards.

The engineering degree is the equivalent of a master’s degree (five years of higher education).

Skills of an ESB engineer

The course is based on the activities of current engineers and the 10 skills they need to carry them out successfully:

  • Is capable of being integrated into a professional environment/network and understanding its complexity (especially that of the international wood sector) 
  • Is capable of auditing processes and systems and assessing their performance 
  • Is capable of identifying, studying and resolving problems and finding and implementing relevant solutions for a company 
  • Capable of evaluating the impact of each solution in terms of the economic, organisational, scientific, technical, managerial, and environmental (sustainable development) dimensions. 
  • Is capable of contributing to a decision-making process according to a strategy, particularly for the management of a profit centre 
  • Knows how to manage a project and teams and pass on his/her company’s values 
  • Capable of recognising all the aspects related to wood and biosourced materials (technical, usage, sustainable development, etc.). 
  • Capable of anticipating market needs (including regulatory needs).
  • Implements a process that results in innovative solutions.
  • Builds a complex technological system.
