Ecorce Industrial Chair

The objectives of the chair

The Ecorce Chair has a number of objectives:

  • Develop innovative assembly solutions for timber construction, particularly for timber-framed facades.
  • Propose additions to the standards and regulatory frameworks in order to facilitate the implementation of these construction techniques, which are necessary for the decarbonisation of construction.
  • Share new knowledge to accelerate the use of these solutions.

A priority area of work: wooden façades

To begin its work, the Chair will focus its priorities on timber façades.

Based on feedback from past and current timber walling practices, both in France and internationally, the Chair’s work will aim to develop combinations of optimised multi-material solutions for timber-frame and CLT façades, incorporating different types of interior and exterior finishes.

The aim of this initiative is to add to the body of knowledge on timber construction, particularly facades. The aim of this work is to provide the scientific community with the information it needs to ensure that regulations and technical standards evolve in a robust and sustainable manner.

The MOBBE project, which will run from 2024 to 2028, aims to produce a comprehensive review of scientific knowledge about bio-based materials that can be used in building envelopes, and to model physical phenomena that are still poorly understood through studies and validation tests. The aim is to provide robust support for the technical and regulatory recognition needed to ensure that the use of wood in frameworks becomes widespread over the long term.

A chair open to all players in the sector

By opening up this work to everyone and adopting a collaborative approach, the signatories wish to involve the entire construction industry in developing the widespread use of these new, optimised and sustainable construction methods.

The creation of this industrial chair, for a renewable period of three years, is an opportunity for all stakeholders to strengthen their expertise in this field and actively contribute to the transition towards more sustainable construction.
