Bouygues construction / ESB Industrial Chair
In June 2022, ESB and Bouygues Construction formalised the creation of an Industrial Chair. Signed for a period of three years, this “ESB / Bouygues Construction” Chair aims to promote the use of bio-sourced materials in the buildings of tomorrow.
The main goals for Bouygues Construction and ESB
This chair has two objectives:
- Strengthen ESB’s ability to produce knowledge about wood and bio-based materials to support the business world in dealing with current and future issues;
- Support the objective set by Bouygues Construction as part of its WeWood initiative: to build 30% of its projects in wood by 2030.
Une Chaire industrielle avec plusieurs axes : technique, pédagogique et communication
The “ESB / Bouygues Construction” Chair has three main areas of activity, with the aim of supporting the development of skills in the wood and construction industries:
- technical: setting up tests, research protocols and modelling with the aim of producing knowledge about bio-based materials;
- education: creation of training modules dedicated to Bouygues Construction employees, continuing education programmes developed by the ESB engineering centre and new content to be taught as part of the BTS, Bachelor’s, Professional Licence, Engineering Diploma and Specialised Master’s courses offered by the ESB;
- communication : organisation of technical days, webinars and speeches to inform stakeholders in the two sectors of the steps taken and results achieved.
Each year, the Chair will launch two new projects involving Bouygues Construction engineers, experts from the ESB engineering centre, as well as lecturers and students. The collaboration also aims to facilitate the professional integration of students within the company. Bouygues Construction will also benefit from previews of the results of the projects.
In November 2024, the work carried out as part of this Chair will be :
– A classification sheet for bio-sourced insulation based on a number of criteria.
– Wall-scale numerical simulations to consolidate certain innovative points:
- Condensation in the wall
- Phase shift time and wall inertia
– A dynamic thermal simulation based on different parameters to assess .
- In winter: the impact of the wall on energy consumption.
- In summer: indoor hygrothermal comfort
